Am I a Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery?

For weight loss surgery:

Insurance companies approve weight loss surgery options for patients who have severe or morbid obesity.

Generally this means they have about 70 lbs to lose with a health condition,

or 100 lbs or more to lose with or without health conditions.

The “ideal weights” you may here referenced are correlated to your height, and based on the 1983 Metropolitan life tables. Weight and height are used to calculate body mass index (BMI), and you can use this calculator to find your own BMI.

For the weight loss balloon:

The balloon is FDA approved for adults with a BMI from 30 – 40, and insurance does not cover this procedure.

For Linx:

Linx is a treatment for acid reflux or GERD, and is generally used in patients who have not responded to lifestyle changes. Please contact us to discuss if Linx or surgical treatment of GERD is a good option for you.

My pre surgical, surgical and post surgical experience with Dr. Kurian and her staff has been extremely positive. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Kurian. Her surgical competence, knowledge, bedside manner, warmth and understanding are without equal. All I can say is–I wish this surgery had been available to me in my 20’s 30’s and 40’s. I have so much more energy, hardly any medical problems now- no more borderline blood pressure or cholesterol problems. I have a herniated disc that no longer troubles me. I look good and am exercising… Not even in childhood, did I feel this good.
